A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
