Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh challenges his creative boundaries in this clever paranormal narrative shot entirely from the perspective of the phantom. When a household including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their recent residence, the camera – representing the ghost – follows them around. Chloe seems aware of the ghostly being, and the entity appears defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that may be unexpected. This Saturday, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
The iconic actor fully commits to his eccentric image via this self-referential adventure. He acts as a narcissistic Hollywood actor named Nicolas Cage who takes on a $1m payday to visit a birthday party at a Mediterranean location for billionaire Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Recruited by the intelligence agency to gather intel on the alleged criminal, the actor's unique performing skills proves useful. October 11th, 9pm, the Channel 4 network
This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest remains effective even without a sequel. Located in 1978 Denver, multiple kidnappings has made the youth frightened. After Finney is kidnapped by the villain and locked up in a cellar, he dreads a fatal end. However, the old telephone on the wall repeatedly calls, with spooky callers providing assistance, while the prescient dreams from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. This Saturday, nighttime, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. The couple commence profiting from the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of bad interior design, bad makeup and insincerity, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to depict Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, late night, Film4
This Espionage Thriller
This week's second offering by the same director is a intelligence thriller as sharp like the turtlenecks used by the actor's UK spy. He is tasked to identify a traitor among the team out of five possibilities – one of whom is his spouse. Both actors are masters of understated style, so a delicious mind game of fact versus fiction unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the intelligent intelligence fun. October 17th, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, the Sky channel
