Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
