The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
